If you have an emergency call 911

This information is not intended to replace professional chiropractic/medical care. The authors, including Dr. Blessley, cannot accept legal responsibility for any problem which may arise out of any proper or improper use of this information.

Eventually we will have information on treating many specific injuries. For the meantime, follow the P.R.I.C.E. guidelines
P = Protection – protect the injured area from further trauma.
R = Rest – rest the area, but move in a pain free way when possible, motion is health
I = Ice, see below
C = Compression, use an Ace wrap to compress the area starting farthest away from the heart and wrapping towards the heart. Don’t compress too securely, compression doesn’t mean a “tourniquet”.
E = Elevation, elevate the area above the heart to decrease gravity and inflammation.

For general sprains (ligaments) and strains (muscles), the first thing to do is apply cold as soon as possible. Apply a cold pack (or frozen peas, corn etc) to the area, with a towel or cloth between the skin and ice for 12-15 minutes. Call Good Health Naturally as soon as possible for more information and to determine if an office visit is necessary. Again, if there is any question of severe injury, like a tendon rupture, significant bleeding or a broken bone, call 911 and/or go to the hospital or urgent care for emergency treatment.
